EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Coercion’
European leaders such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been at the heart of campaigns to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “This government will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported the French president in criticizing the decision.
The restrictions were enacted on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as several anti-disinformation campaigners, from Germany and the United Kingdom.
